Businesses and Police Benevolence Association officials in Union are fighting to bring back a popular statewide program.
The Jobs in Blue program, which allows off-duty police officers to work as security guards, was cut in August when contract negotiations between the PBA and town officials came to a halt. Union Township officers were pulled from their security jobs and are now the only police officers in the state not allowed to participate in the program.
Residents say they have noticed the lack of security and say crime has been on the rise since the program was cut. They are calling for city officials to agree to a new contract that helps keep their town safe.
