A woman was killed and cars overturned after an out-of-control bus careened into a strip mall in Lacey Township Monday.

The accident occurred around 3 p.m. and created pandemonium in the shopping center.

The bus, a transport vehicle for the Pines at Whiting retirement community, hit five cars before crashing into the columns outside of a Dollar Tree store. At some point, the bus hit and flipped an SUV. Only an elderly bus driver was on board at the time of the crash.

A 58-year-old Lacey Township woman was airlifted to Jersey Shore Medical Center after being clipped by the out-of-control vehicle. She died a few hours later. A number of other residents were also taken to the hospital as precautionary measures.

Police are investigating the crash.

"We do have videotape that we will review shortly to see if the accident is captured on tape," says Chief William Nally, of the Lacey Township Police Department.
