A Bridgeton officer has died after making a rescue in the Cohansey River.
Authorities say that Officer Sean Peek died Monday morning. They say Peek jumped into the Cohansey River to rescue a suspect who had either fell or jumped into the water.
Peek, 49, was a 15-year veteran of the department. He was treated and released from the hospital after the rescue but was found unresponsive in his home hours later.
An official cause of death is pending an autopsy.
The woman who was in the water was charged with burglary.
