Bridgegate “mastermind” David Wildstein is scheduled to be sentenced Wednesday for his role in the scandal.
Wildstein could get up to 27 months in prison when he goes before U.S. District Judge Susan Wigenton. But law experts say that it is unlikely that he will have to serve his whole sentence because he cooperated with federal prosecutors in the cases against defendants Bill Baroni and Bridget Kelly.
Authorities say that Wildstein, Baroni and Kelly orchestrated a plot to close access lanes to the George Washington Bridge in Fort Lee in September 2013. Prosecutors say that this was done to create traffic gridlock in the town as a form of punishment against Democratic Mayor Mark Sokolich, who refused to endorse Gov. Chris Christie’s 2013 re-election campaign.
Kelly, a former aide to Christie, was sentenced to 18 months in prison.
Baroni, a former Port Authority official and Christie ally, was sentenced to 24 months in prison.
