Star Bridge-Gate witness David Wildstein alleged Tuesday that Gov. Chris Christie and New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo had knowledge of a cover-up in the George Washington Bridge lane-closing scandal.
Wildstein testified that Gov. Christie discussed the cover-up with Gov. Cuomo in October 2013, a few weeks after the lanes in Fort Lee were closed. The former Port Authority officials testified that the two governors agreed that the agency would issue a report that said the lane closings were a traffic study so that questions about the closings would go away.
The governors never announced such a report, but defendant Bill Baroni later testified to a New Jersey panel that the closings were part of a traffic study.
Wildstein said he learned of the discussion between the governors from a Port Authority chairman.
Under cross-examination, Wildstein testified that Gov. Cuomo told Executive Director Pat Foye to "lay off Christie." Wildstein went on to say Gov. Christie lied at a Dec. 13, 2013 news conference in which he said he didn't know about the lane closing revenge plan.
Wildstein is expected to wrap his testimony this week
Gov. Cuomo's office denied that the governor spoke to Gov. Christie about the lane closings.
Gov. Christie's office did not respond to News 12 New Jersey's request for comment.
