The federal trial of two former allies of Gov. Chris Christie in the George Washington Bridge lane-closing scandal has been delayed.

The judge issued a new schedule last week that pushes the trial date back from early March to April 4. 

Defense lawyers requested the extra time to review documents.

Former Christie deputy chief of staff Bridget Kelly and former Port Authority of New York and New Jersey official Bill Baroni are charged with crimes including conspiracy, fraud and civil rights deprivation.

They allegedly orchestrated a scheme to close access lanes and snarl traffic in Fort Lee to punish that town's mayor for not endorsing Christie's 2013 re-election bid.

Another former Port Authority official has already pleaded guilty.

The scandal has dogged Christie as he seeks the Republican presidential nomination.
