Brick Council eliminates clause allowing Breeders Association of America to sell dogs
A Brick Township pet store that was accused of selling sick puppies has been ordered to change the way they do business or face permanent closure.
Customers of Breeders Association of America on Route 70 told News 12 New Jersey that the shop sold sick dogs, which eventually died. The story prompted an investigation by Ocean County health officials.
Pet stores that sell animals are usually banned in Brick Township, but Breeders Association was able to stay opened due to a grandfather clause. The Brick Township council has unanimously voted to eliminate the clause.
Breeders Association of America will now only be allowed to sell rescued or donated dogs once the ordinance goes into effect June 30.
Dozens of puppies still remain inside the store under quarantine. Several of the sick puppies tested positive for the Parvo virus.
