Brick becomes latest municipality to ban sale of recreational marijuana

The Brick Township Council has unanimously voted to ban recreational marijuana in the town.
The council voted just before midnight Tuesday night after town residents on both sides of the issue had a chance to voice their opinion. In the end, the council voted to ban the sale, cultivation, manufacturing and testing of marijuana.
Marijuana has a complicated relationship with the town. The owner of land on Adamston Road where the old Ocean First Bank used to be said that she would give up plans to build a medical marijuana dispensary after opposition from neighbors.

The owner now says that she wanted to focus on a growing and cultivating farm – something that many neighbors told News 12 New Jersey that they would also be against.
The Brick Township Council’s decision came on the same day that Gov. Phil Murphy announced that he and other state lawmakers had reached a tentative deal on legislation to legalized marijuana for adult recreational used.
Brick is just the latest out of dozens of towns that have issued a ban on recreational marijuana, including Bridgewater, Chatham, East Rutherford and Point Pleasant Beach.
