Dozens of Boy Scouts from Troop 114 Metuchen placed American flags on the graves of fallen veterans at the Colony, Presbyterian and Hillside cemeteries Saturday morning.
Those who participated say they were just doing their job.
"It's part of our civic duty as Boy Scouts and just as citizens of the United States to remember our fallen heroes," said Nathan Witkowski.
Many of the headstones at the three cemeteries mark the graves of soldiers who served in the Civil War, the Spanish-American War and both World Wars.
Family members of deceased veterans say they are grateful for the gesture.
The Boy Scouts placed a total of 810 flags on the graves of veterans.
