State Comptroller Matthew Boxer is promising oversight in how New Jersey spends it share of federal stimulus money.
?The best antiseptic for inappropriate activity really is transparency,? says Boxer. ?That?s what our effort is devoted to ? to put the right procedures in place.?
As much as $17 billion in federal aid could be headed to the Garden State. One step Boxer and his task force have taken is to set up a Web site for New Jersey residents to monitor how tax dollars are being spent.
Boxer says his task force is devoted to make sure the federal stimulus money doesn?t go the way of the school construction program windfall ? where only half the work was completed and $2 billion was lost to waste and abuse.
?We feel good about where we are, the things we're doing,? says Boxer. ?It's a substantial undertaking that we're doing to monitor this kind of spending. But we feel good about where we are and look forward to making sure the process is one the state can be proud of.?
