A boil water advisory still remains in place for Jersey City and Hoboken after a 36-inch water main break in Jersey City on Tuesday.

The break started Tuesday afternoon when a contractor hit the water main that feeds Jersey City. Suez Water crews worked all of the evening to make repairs. They then found the shutoff was under four feet of water. Once all the water was out of the way, crews isolated the break and water service started to return.
A large portion of Jersey City was without water for hours Tuesday night. Restaurants, that were only open for takeout and delivery, were forced to close.
Water tankers are set up in both Jersey City and Hoboken for residents who need fresh water.
