Newly released bodycam video shows an Ewing police detective rescuing a German Shepherd from a burning home.
News 12 New Jersey obtained the video showing Detective Julia Caldwell climbing through the window of the home on Browning Avenue on June 2 to rescue the dog.
Ewing police were called to the home for reports of a fire. That’s when officers heard that the dog was inside.
Caldwell was able to climb through an open window and encountered a smoke-filled room. The dog, named Lei Lei, was still inside its pen.
Caldwell opened the pen, wrapped the dog in a blanket, and got it to safety.
The detective suffered some smoke inhalation but was treated at the scene.
No other injuries were reported in the fire.
