Authorities say a 49-year-old Essex Fells man was killed Sunday in a hit-and-run boating incident in Brick Township.
New Jersey State Police plan to have extra patrols on the waters until they catch the person responsible for the fatal accident. Police say a boat crashed into a 17-foot Boston Whaler and then sped away, killing Robert Post and injuring four other adults.
Police say the collision took place at about 1:15 a.m. on the Metedeconk River in Brick. According to authorities, the damaged boat has few clues about the one that sped away, with no paint and no dents to identify it.
Officials say hit-and-run accidents on the waters are rare.
"It's common in the boating world to stop and help another boater," says state Trooper Sean Reader.
