Bloomfield firefighters saved the day by rescuing a kitten that was stuck in a sewage drain.

The kitten got stuck near a home on Walnut Street on Sunday. The Bloomfield Fire Department and Bloomfield Animal Control were called to help the kitten out of the drain.

Officials say the homeowners were taking care of a feral cat that just had babies and they believed the mother cat pushed the kitten into the drain.

Capt. Robert Griffin, who helped rescue the kitten, says this isn’t the first time one of the homeowners’ kittens has gotten stuck down the drain.

"The day before the homeowners had the same call...They were in the basement, and they heard a kitten crying. They figured it was coming from the sewer. So, the homeowner cut the pipe out of the ground and was able to reach down and grab it,” Griffin says. “This kitten was put in yesterday by the mom and decided to crawl up the pipe toward the back of the house.”

Officials say the kitten is doing just fine.
