A black bear was captured in a Maplewood man's back yard Sunday. The 400-pound bear was spotted at 26 Salter Place in a tree behind Bob Lynch's house. Lynch says the bear was wide-awake in his back yard from 6 a.m. to 11 a.m. until animal authorities came. Kelsey Burgess, from the New Jersey Department of Fish, Game and Wildlife, shot the bear with a tranquilizer gun and caught it in a net. Burgess says the bear is safe and no one was injured. The state says this type of spotting happens between 10 to 15 times per year.
