The calendar page flipped from November to December this past week, but it feels like we jumped straight into January with how the air has been feeling lately.
Temperatures are running colder than average for both the highs and lows for this time of the year. Normally, the temperatures should be around 46 degrees but will averaging into the upper 30s.
Factor in breezy and windy winds, and the temps will be feeling even colder. I hope you did some holiday shopping over this past Thanksgiving weekend for some winter gear, because you will certainly need it for yourselves this week and beyond.
Wednesday night into Thursday, a system quickly moves into the region bringing scattered showers. With the temperatures trending so cold, there will be a wintry mix to snow showers chance across the region.
Expect Thursday morning's commute to involve slick roadways and walkways, especially on any untreated surfaces with de-icing items. Accumulations are not anticipated outside of a coating on some elevated grassy surfaces and a few inches in the Catskills.
After this system moves through, winds will pick up and the air will feel even colder. Friday and into the weekend will be temps in the 30s but feeling into the 20s. The winds will be backing down over the course of the weekend ahead, but it will still be a chilly one.
