One person was killed when part of the Beachwood Plaza collapsed in the Bayville section of Berkeley Township.

The collapse happened at around 2:15 p.m. Thursday. Police and emergency crews were called for reports that someone was trapped under the debris after part of the roof collapsed at the plaza along Route 9. The building was being demolished at the time of the collapse.

Law enforcement officials confirm a construction worker was killed. The victim's name will not be released until the family is notified.

The Berkeley Township police, Ocean County Prosecutor's Office, Ocean County sheriff and OSHA are investigating the incident.
