There have been two reports recently near Upper Saddle River of wild animals that tested positive for rabies, leading animal control officers to advise people not to let their children or pets play outside unattended.
Officials say that in one case, an elderly man was hospitalized after a raccoon bit him several times. In nearby Ramsey, there was a recent report of a cat that tested positive for rabies.
Officials say if you see an animal that looks disoriented or is circling around, to stay away and call police or animal control.
