In Belmar, the sand quickly filled up with blankets and chairs Sunday as temperatures climbed into the 90s. The boardwalk was bustling as well.
Sunday was expected to be the most oppressive day of the anticipated heat wave, with excessive heat warnings and heat advisories posted across the state.
Monday was expected to see hazy sunshine with highs around 96 degrees.
