Despite beaches being reopened in New Jersey just in time for Memorial Day, they were mostly empty due to the weather Saturday.
Along with the beaches, there is no traffic, open parking spaces, and empty bars and restaurants - an unfamiliar sight to a New Jersey beach town. Asbury Park residents tell News 12 that they've never seen a beach that empty, and it's sad and depressing.
Eve Douglas, of Brooklyn, says she usually vacations on Fire Island during the holiday weekend but because of beach restrictions in New York, she chose to visit friends instead.
She says while she's happy to get out of her small studio apartment, you can never truly relax in the age of coronavirus.
While restaurants are open for takeout, many say they're worried because seasonal businesses depend on the money made during the holiday weekend.
Weather conditions are expected to improve on Sunday, which could bring more people to the shore.
