Your next beauty routine may already be in your kitchen.
Beauty and health writer Krista Bennett DeMaio shows you some of her best beauty food hacks.
Below are some of her recipes:
Kitchen Wonders
Avocado
Hydrating skin mask
  • 1/2 avocado
  • 2 tsp honey
  • Optional: 1/2 c rolled oats
Healthy hair mask
  • 1 avocado
  • 2-3 Tbsp of coconut oil
Yogurt: A great base for many masks, but the probiotics in it make it especially good for acne-prone skin (or other inflammatory skin issues).
Mask for acne-prone skin
  • 1 c whole milk yogurt
  • 1 tsp honey
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric
Baking soda: This is the ingredient that likely works on pimples in toothpaste, but here's a way to get it without all the potentially irritating ingredients! It's also a fantastic, non-toxic cleaner for beauty brushes and sponges.
Blackhead mask/blemish spot treatment
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tbsp of water
Makeup brush cleanser
  • 2 tbsp of baking soda
  • 2 c of warm water
Pantry Potions
Green tea bags: Anti-inflammatory + caffeine gets rid of puffy eyes.
Puffy eye mask
Steep in hot water. Squeeze out excess water. Then place in refrigerator to chill for 10-15 minutes. Apply to eyes for 15-20 minutes.
Apple cider vinegar: will talk about skin and hair benefits, and why it's important to dilute properly.
Facial toner
Dilute 1 tbsp of ACV in two cups of water. Soak a cotton ball with the solution and apply it to clean skin.
Hair clarifier
Sea Salt: An excellent body exfoliating agent, too. You can also make a low-budget sea salt wave spray.
  • 2 tsp sea salt
  • 1 tsp melted coconut oil
  • 2 1/2 cups of warm water
Let sea salt dissolve into water. Let it cool. Pour into a spray bottle. Shake and spray on damp hair.
Brown sugar:
Lip scrub
  • 2 tsp sugar
  • 1 tsp honey
  • 1 tsp almond oil
Combine a bowl. Apply directly to lips, massaging in. Wipe clean.
Coffee: Caffeine constricts blood vessels and helps cells release water, giving skin a tighter appearance, temporarily. Sealing it in with Saran wrap intensifies the treatment.
Slimming cellulite wrap
  • ½ c coffee grinds
  • ¼ c coconut oil
Combine in a bowl to make a paste. Slather on the affected area (thighs, stomach, etc.). Wrap with Saran wrap. Let sit for 30 mins. Rinse clean.
Bathroom Basics
Visine : Use it to take the red out of the pimples.
Deodorant: Prevent blisters, inner thigh chafing, and even razor bumps.
Conditioner: An excellent alternative to shaving cream.
Whitening toothpaste: To remove stains from dark nail polish.
