Amazon is on the hunt for a second headquarters, and the mayor of Bayonne says that he will do whatever it takes to make sure his city is the place.
Bayonne Mayor Jimmy Davis says that a vacant military yard in the city would be the perfect place. He says that there are over 200 acres of undeveloped land and stunning views.
“You can see the Verrazano Bridge, you will see Brooklyn,” he says. “There’s the view of Manhattan and you will end with Lady Liberty and the Jersey City skyline. No one else in the world has that.”
Mayor Davis also says that Bayonne is close to three international airports and also has easy access to mass transit.
Bayonne joins the growing list of cities across the United States and Canada vying for the opportunity.  Amazon has already established a foothold in the New Jersey, housing several fulfillment centers here. The company plans to spend $5 billion on the new facility and provide 50,000 jobs.
Bayonne residents say that they would welcome the company.
“I think anything that brings much-needed jobs to the city would be awesome,” says resident Felicia Armour.
But Bayonne is not the only municipality in the Garden State planning on making a bid to Amazon. Camden, Newark, New Brunswick and Jersey City have also expressed interest.
More than 50 cities are expected to submit bids by Amazon’s deadline of Oct. 19.
