A 15-year-old girl is asking for the driver who struck her in Bay Shore to turn themselves in.

Jaelene Pichardo was walking near Bay Shore High School when she was hit by a car on Third Avenue on Jan. 18 at around 5:30 p.m.

The 10th grader says nobody helped her until first responders arrived.

"All I remember seeing was the front of the car a little bit," Pichardo says. "And then I was knocked unconscious."

Pichardo suffered a broken wrist, bruised ribs, a concussion and cuts and scrapes over her body.

Her mother Vanessa and her second cousin, Juan, were able to get security video from a nearby house.

They say some drivers stopped to see if Pichardo was OK, but none of them called for help.

Students at the school say the three-way intersection where the crash occurred is dangerous and confusing.

"In prior years there were a lot of accidents," says Bay Shore High School student Andrew Jeannot. "When we were freshmen, we're seniors now, two accidents happened in the same year in that same exact spot."

The Suffolk County Police Department says it took a report and is investigating the hit-and-run but has not yet made any arrests.
