A 67-year-old Barnegat Township man is facing murder charges stemming from a domestic violence incident Monday evening.

William Garvin is facing charges in connection with the death of his wife, Eileen Garvin, 69, according to Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer.

The prosecutor said that on Monday at about 6:30 p.m., Barnegat police officers responded to a Windward Drive home for a report of a domestic violence incident. When officers arrived, they found William Garvin seated in a chair with a knife protruding from his chest. His wife was found deceased on the floor of the home. The prosecutor said an investigation determined that Garvin was responsible for his wife's death.

William Garvin was transported to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center in Atlantic City for treatment. Police said he was served with a warrant while hospitalized and is currently in stable condition. Billhimer said following his release from the hospital, Garvin will be transported to Ocean County Jail pending a detention hearing.
