The city of Wildwood's Board of Commissioners approved a ban on backpacks and other large bags on its boardwalks and beaches Wednesday night.
The ban went into effect on Thursday and takes place from 8 p.m. to 4 a.m.
Officials say the ban is a reaction to large crowds of teenagers who took over the city on Memorial Day weekend, causing the city to declare a state of emergency. Police also got word of a pop-up party planned for Saturday. Extra police officers will be on duty this weekend as a precautionary measure.
Jersey Shore officials are asking the state for more tools for law enforcement officers to deal with the large crowds. They are also pressing parents to monitor their teenagers while they are at the Shore.
