Some children in Newark are going back to school in style thanks to a local McDonald's.
The fifth annual Haircuts, Happy Meals and Nails event was held Sunday at the McDonald's located on Broad Street.
During the free event open to the public, children picked out new backpacks, school supplies and a enjoyed a Happy Meal.
The kids also got haircuts and manicures. Franchise owners and operators Celest and Jessica Quintana hosted the event to give back to the community and help kids get excited about heading back to school.
"It's also a way of supporting parents," says Celest. "They have a lot of barriers and stresses and most parents have more than one child. If we can make a little impact, that's what we're all about."
The McDonald's on Broad Street was also celebrating its grand re-opening Sunday.
