A baby deer has made itself at home in a Freehold family's swimming pool.
The deer has been visiting the Benincasa family pool for more than a week.
“I looked out and saw she was just climbing out of the pool and appeared to be shaking a bit, but not in distress,” says Brittney Benincasa.
The family called animal control because they thought that the deer might be hurt, but the department said that nothing was wrong.
The deer comes back most days and cools off in the pool and then lounges in the shade.
“She hasn’t ripped the [pool] lining and she’s been a good guest,” Benincasa says. “She knows how to get in and out. She kind of comes and goes, and it’s fun for the time being.”
The family says that they believe the deer comes from a field across the street from their home. They say that they’ve thought of several names for the deer, but have settled on Bambi.
Experts say that while a deer swimming in a family pool is odd, it’s not a danger to the animal or the family.
