Two women delivered healthy babies on back-to-back days in the parking lot of the same Burger King restaurant in Morris County.
Denville police say they were called to the restaurant around 7:30 p.m. Friday for a woman going into labor. They say the parents were on the way to the hospital but had to pull over after getting stuck in traffic.
Officers Scott Tobin, Shawn Frawley and Christopher Ordway, as well as emergency responders, rushed to the scene to help the woman deliver a healthy baby boy.
“Some people on Twitter tagged the baby ‘a little Whopper Junior’ for being born inside the Burger King parking lot,” says Denville Police Chief Christopher Wagner.
About 25 hours later, those same patrol officers were called back to the Burger King for a report of another woman going into labor. Authorities say the couple was heading to the hospital when the woman started going through severe contractions.
Officials say that this birth was slightly difficult because the baby had his umbilical cord wrapped around his neck. But the officers knew what to do and the baby was fine.
Officer Tobin says that saving a life on the job is an honor and this was much the same.
“Actually bringing someone's life into the world and having a hand in that … there's nothing more satisfying,” he says.
Both women gave birth to baby boys. Both the children and the mothers are said to be doing well.
