A woman from Mansfield Township was scammed, but charged, after she says she received a call from someone claiming to be a member of "New Kids on the Block," but of course – it wasn’t.
According to authorities, Cynthia Salvadore, 42, received a phone call from someone she said introduced himself as Jordan Knight from the 80s pop group.
Authorities say he wanted to send her a $2,700 check to cash and send the money to a charity in Nigeria.
Salvadore received the check, cashed it at Anderson Cash Checking in Hackettstown, and then deposited $2,000 into an account at a bank and purchased $700 in gift cards -- which those accounts were given to him.
It was determined Salvadore was scammed. She was charged with third-degree cashing a bad check and possession of a forged check. Salvadore was released pending a court appearance.
