The search is expected to continue this morning for a missing boater after an empty vessel was discovered drifting in Monmouth County.

Atlantic Highlands police say they spotted the boat, believed to be a commercial clamming vessel, around 10:45 a.m. Monday near the Seastreak pier.

Authorities say no one was on board when the boat was found.

Police attempted to contact the boat's registered owner, a 64-year-old Pennsylvania man, but were unsuccessful.

The man's name has not been released.

New Jersey State Police have since taken over the investigation and search efforts.

Officials are working to determine whether the owner was aboard the vessel and what happened before the boat was found adrift.

Anyone with information is urged to contact New Jersey State Police.
