The New Jersey State Police are asking for the public’s help finding a Pennsylvania man who is wanted for allegedly eluding police.
Police say Ryan Smithers, of Stroudsburg, was speeding on I-80 in Warren County Monday afternoon. A trooper tried to pull Smithers over for speeding, but police say he refused to stop.
Smithers was next seen driving on County Road 521 and Heller Hill Road in Blairstown. A trooper who was directing traffic near a construction stop tried to get Smithers to stop, but he again refused, police say.
Blairstown police say officers found Smithers’ red Dodge Neon abandoned on Union Brick Road, but Smithers had apparently left the area on foot. Police say they saw him again and ordered him to stop but that he ran away.
A warrant has been issued for Smithers’ arrest. He was charged with two counts of eluding.
Anyone who may recognize Smithers is asked to contact New Jersey State Police at 908-459-5098.
