A 4-year-old boy who was found submerged in a lake inside of a Mercer County park has died.
Hamilton police were called to Roebling Memorial Park Thursday around 5 p.m. for reports of a missing child. An hour later, they found the boy in the water.
The Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office, which is assisting the Hamilton Police Department with the investigation, confirms that the child wandered away from his home on or near Overlook Road. The road runs up against parts of Roebling Memorial Park.
Police say the child’s family called 911 after about 40 minutes of searching on their own. Officers found the boy about an hour later in Spring Lake, located inside the park.
The area is normally very quiet, and many residents had not heard about the tragedy. Those who did come by to say prayers.
“We are extra shocked. We haven’t had any tragedy like that around here. So, we were really very sorry about the family and the boy who lost his life,” says Angeline Pozo.
The incident is under investigation, but authorities say that foul play is not suspected.
