Law enforcement authorities say that an Asbury Park police officer shot and killed a 27-year-old man who was armed with a pair of scissors.
The New Jersey Attorney General’s Office says that police were called to a boarding house on Seventh Avenue Tuesday night for reports that one of the occupants was “behaving erratically.”
Authorities say that the officers tried to speak to that occupant, but he shut his door on the officers and then came back armed with a pair of scissors. During the encounter, one of the officers fired a gun, killing the man.
The occupant was identified as 27-year-old James Manzo.
The officers were not hurt. Their names were not released.
A second, separate deadly shooting also occurred in Asbury Park overnight.
The Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office says the incident happened on the 700 block of Sewell Avenue.
The victim was identified as Jabar Busby. No arrests have been made.
