The city has extended contracts with organizations that are not performing up to par, according to an audit by the city comptroller. The audit shows that the city's Department for the Aging extended contracts with two vendors that aren't adequately overseeing the delivery of meals to homebound Bronx seniors. The head of the department, however, says the agency only had nine months worth of information before the contracts expired. He says during that time the department received minimal complaints about the programs. As a result of the findings, the comptroller has recommended that the department keep better tabs on the vendors' daily routes and formally review performance before renewing contracts.
