A popular home goods store has filed for bankruptcy citing tariff increases and slowdown in consumer spending.
At Home is the latest big box store to navigate Chapter 11, as the company announces the closures of 26 locations.
At Home’s CEO said the company is operating against the backdrop of an increasingly dynamic and rapidly evolving trade environment from the impact of tariffs.
In court documents the company says the rise in interest rates and inflation are also issues that put pressure on the market. And a reduction in foot traffic inside the stores because of competitors.
There are about 260 At Home stores in the US.
In the court document the company plans to close 26 underperforming brick-and-mortar stores, and possibly more in the future.
That includes three New Jersey locations in Middletown, Ledgewood and Princeton.
They expect all 26 stores to close by Sept. 30.
