Damage from the heavy rain produce by Ida has prompted some New Jersey communities to issue boil water advisories.
Advisories were issued in Hoboken and Jersey City after heavy rain from the storm caused damage to an aqueduct in Cedar Grove.
Residents are urged to boil their tap water for one minute and allow it to cool before using it to drink, cook, wash dishes or brush their teeth. This also applies to residents who may have filtered tap water.
Water distribution sites have been set up at various locations in both cities for any resident who wishes to use bottled water.
Repairs have already been made to the aqueduct, but the advisory remains in place until further notice.
And the Passaic Valley Water Commission has issued advisories in Passaic, Paterson and parts of Clifton and Woodland Park.
Residents are also urged to boil their water before consumption or use bottled water. The water is safe for showering but should not be swallowed.
