(AP) - State Senate Democrats say there's a deal to resolve how New York City schools are governed, reauthorizing Mayor Michael Bloomberg's authority over the school system.
Three Senate officials familiar with negotiations, including aDemocratic senator, say the deal Bloomberg's camp helped negotiatewill create a $1.7 million training center for parents to give themsupport and a method for participating in the school system.
The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because the dealisn't public. The deal comes after weeks of bickering betweensenators and Bloomberg.
The plan will create an arts advisory committee, allow for areview of principals and the quality of curriculum, and create openmeetings with a focus on public safety in schools.
