Wé Ani McDonald, a former contestant and finalist on "American Idol," is set to perform in Newark this weekend.

News 12 New Jersey's Nick Meidanis interviewed the 24-year-old singer ahead of her big show at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center on Sunday.

A graduate of Passaic Tech High School, McDonald was partly raised in New Jersey. She will open for R&B superstar Monica. McDonald says she focused on the show and all the work to make it great.

McDonald will take the stage at 7 p.m. Tickets range from $41.50 to $131.50. For more information, visit njpac.org.
