The American Premiere League cricket tournament kicked off in Little Falls on Monday.
The tournament is the first of its kind in the United States and runs through Sept. 30 at Yogi Berra Stadium.
Several New Jersey athletes are competing with international professional cricket players. It is an effort to increase cricket’s popularity in America.
"Believe it or not, cricket is the world’s second most popular sport after soccer. And it just doesn't have much exposure over here in the United States,” says American Premiere League owner Jay Mir. “We're creating awareness through the spectacular tournament, a historic tournament. And in order for us to maximize exposure, we had to choose a place which is very close to the communities that actually love cricket."
The MVP of the tournament will take home a new Corvette. The winning team will receive $75,000.
