Denville police say an Amazon delivery worker was charged with burglary after he was accused of going inside a home Monday after delivering a package there.
The incident left many residents in shock.
“For a burglary that happened around here, that’s very rare that we are hearing that, especially in a town like Denville,” said resident Cristina Sakelakos.
Authorities say it was around 7:45 p.m. on Monday when the driver allegedly broke into the house on Arden Road.
According to officials, the driver was identified as Leebert Michel. He was arrested Tuesday and charged with burglary. Police documents state that the 28-year-old Bronx man was caught on camera entering the home.
A spokesperson for Amazon made it clear that the driver was contracted by a third-party company and was not a direct employee of the delivery giant.
“We contacted the customer to apologize for this incident and are thankful police made an arrest quickly. This driver is no longer delivering for Amazon,” the spokesperson stated.
With the holiday season approaching, residents say they will remain on high alert as they don’t want to be the next victim.
It was not clear if anything was stolen from the home.
