Labor Day is seen by many to be the unofficial end of the summer, and many people use the day to travel back home.
“We did a quick getaway before school starts,” says Dolores Nixon Mack, of East Orange.
They are not alone. AAA expects to see an increase of about 20% in travel compared the previous years. This comes even as the cost of a plane ticket is up 20%.
The Daryvanani family just came back from Greece.
“We were actually very nervous. We heard so many stories of bags getting lost, but luckily, we did receive all our bags, and everything went smoothly — flights were on time,” says Varsha Daryanani.
It was a stark contrast to a summer of flights marred by chaos. Many airlines did not have enough workers and struggled to keep up with demand. Many flights had to be canceled.
AAA says that international travel is about double where it was from last year.
