County officials say they are monitoring the air and water systems near a massive warehouse fire that sent off huge plumes of smoke and a stench that could be detected for miles on Thursday morning.

"The county is conducting air monitoring and reports only typical byproducts of combustion," Department of Environmental Protection officials told News 12's Jim Murdoch in a statement.

They added that "there was water runoff to the creek that is being addressed."

In addition to environmental concerns, some local business owners reported large embers landing on the roofs of their establishments. Others had their power cut and were unable to go to work.
