Much like the floodwaters that ravaged New Jersey, the frustration among residents is beginning to spill over.
Some residents in Bound Brook say the government is doing the best it can under the circumstances. Others feel government officials should be doing more. Almost everyone is wondering when they will be allowed back home to assess their water-damaged homes.
The Office of Emergency Management in Bound Brook divided the flood area into three zones. Those in zone one could start cleaning up their homes Thursday. Zone two residents were allowed to start Friday and those in zone three will be allowed to check their homes Saturday.
Some residents are getting frustrated because they aren?t allowed home. However, according to state police Lieutenant George Georgeles there cannot be any shortcuts when it comes to inspecting homes for structural integrity.
?There?s public service, gas, electric. You?ve got telephone and cable situation(s). We?ve got debris removal. Water supply system...[we] have to make sure that it?s sanitary and safe,? said Georgeles.
The state is still totaling up all of the damage before it asks for federal financial help.
