Eleven people who are accused of breaking into homes since last July and stealing high-end cars from New Jersey driveways are now facing charges, according to New Jersey Attorney General Matt Platkin.
The New Jersey state attorney general says those cars were being sent through Port Elizabeth and the port in Staten Island to West African countries.
Among the cars stolen, 43 were recently recovered from shipping containers at the ports. They include high-end BMWs, Mercedes and Land Rovers. They were taken from homes in townships like West Caldwell, Edison and Pompton Plains.
Platkin says that the stolen cars were hidden at a Bronx parking garage before being packed in shipping containers.
The 11 people arrested face first-degree crimes. A conviction could see the suspects go to prison for 17 years or more.
