Lawmakers and advocates are urging Congress to approve bills aimed at stopping youth from using tobacco and vaping products.

Rep. Frank Pallone joined local advocates and students to applaud the House of Representatives for advancing bipartisan legislation that would prohibit the sale of all flavored tobacco products. The bill would also protect kids from predatory marketing of tobacco products.

But advocates say that some of the most dangerous products are still available to children today.

"We've trained over 600 adults to use our ‘Don't Get Vaped’ [campaign] in curriculum and providing schools with a model tobacco policy that makes sure that youth are receiving supportive services for their vaping use,” says NJ Prevention Network CEO Diane Litterer. “Yet still all of our comprehensive prevention efforts are battling the influence of the tobacco industry, which is still pushing hard to hook our kids."

Pallone's committee is also investigating electronic cigarette manufacturers.
