An East Orange officer accused of being a dirty cop is proclaiming his innocence.
Officer David Sheridan is one of three officers indicted last month stemming from an alleged incident in May. According to prosecutors, Sheridan idly stood by while two fellow officers roughed up teenagers for throwing rocks at a patrol car.
The officers allegedly pulled their guns during the incident. Officer Hakim Davis is accused of putting the barrel of his service weapon into one of the teenager's mouth.
Sheridan is charged with official misconduct and conspiracy. The officer says he didn't see anything and would have taken action if he did.
"I would have stopped it immediately," says Sheridan.
The 23-year-old officer's career is now in jeopardy. He has been suspended without pay pending the investigation and says life has been rough.
"I have no income," he says. "I'm out of a job now."
Sheridan's lawyer Patrick Toscano says there's been a rush to judgment and his client will get his job back.
