A man who uses a wheelchair to get around says that someone has stolen the ramp from the entrance to his home in Garfield.
"I can't catch a break," Joseph Connolly said.
Connolly has multiple sclerosis and prostate cancer. For the last six years, he's relied on his wheelchair.
His wife died in November, and he says he has no one else around to help him move in and out of the home without his ramp.
"You're stuck in the house 24 hours a day, and I'm thinking about my wife all the time," Connolly said. "I've got to get out...Even if it's just to sit in the park and talk to somebody, but now I'm stranded."
He said he believes thieves took his $400 ramp to sell it for scrap metal. A neighbor's wooden ramp next door was left alone.
"You don't rob from the handicapped or elderly," Connolly says. "It's ridiculous."
Garfield police say they have contacted area and state scrapyards but so far found nothing. They're also asking neighbors to share any surveillance video their home security cameras may have taken to help aid the investigation.
Connolly says he can't afford a replacement ramp and that he is hoping the original will be returned.
