At least 13 U.S. service members and 95 Afghans were killed Thursday when suicide bombers and gunmen attacked crowds at the Kabul airport as people are looking to get out of the country fast.
The Islamic State terror group ISIS-K, an enemy of the Taliban, claimed responsibility for the first hostile action deaths in Afghanistan since February 2020.
Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee Bob Menendez says the situation in Afghanistan is a “full-fledged humanitarian crisis and the U.S. government personnel, already working under extreme conditions, must secure the airport and complete the massive evacuation of American citizens and vulnerable Afghans desperately trying to leave the country.”
Other lawmakers from the state like Rep. Jeff Van Drew of New Jersey’s 2nd congressional district say the deadly attacks are due to the Biden administration’s lack of planning and its willingness to give in to the Taliban
“It is absolutely unacceptable that the president allowed for our people and our troops to remain on the ground in Afghanistan with no way out,” Van Drew says.
He says President Joe Biden and Congress must take immediate action to rescue Americans.

The U.S. has less than a week until their set withdrawal date with around 1,000 Americans still in Afghanistan.
