The teenage driver of a car shot at by an off-duty state trooper last month in Sparta said in a 911 recording that he swerved to avoid the officer standing in the street before he opened fire.
The New Jersey Herald reports that the trooper's wife said in a separate 911 recording on July 26 that the driver of the car fled after trying to hit her husband.
No one was injured in the shooting after the trooper fired three shots from his personal weapon. The shooting is being investigated by the state Attorney General's office and the trooper remains on active duty.
Driver Jonathan Baker says that he and two friends ran after the trooper came out of his home with a weapon after they mistakenly knocked on his door while looking for a friend's house.
