Trucking Company on Old Lincoln Highway by two men driving a stolen car Monday. After mowing Savino down, the suspects snatched the money he was carrying and sped off. According to police, the black Honda Civic used in the hit-and-run was stolen Monday morning in Newark.
After the car hit him, Savino hit his head and fell into a coma. He was taken off life support Tuesday.
Investigators are reviewing surveillance video of the incident and hope it will lead to an arrest.
It is believed the suspects followed Savino from the Valley National Bank, where the elderly man had withdrawn his company?s change for the week. He was carrying a bag with several thousand dollars in it when he was attacked.
?Billy was about 5?8?, 87 ? they just could of went up to him and taken the money,? says employer Jay Brady.
His family and colleagues are stunned.
?Billy was in World War II,? says Brady. ?He survived that ? the Battle of the Bulge. For him to pass like this is a tragedy.?
